An element or a switch is a modest repair. A ceramic surface is a substantial one and is model-specific. Both start here because from the kitchen they can look identical — a zone that is not working — and the difference is established by measurement on the visit. Availability of the glass is confirmed before anything is booked, because on an older cooktop it sometimes decides against the repair altogether.

### There is a crack in the glass. Can I keep using the other zones?

No. On a radiant or induction cooktop the glass is a structural part of the appliance and it is what keeps liquid out of the electronics underneath. A crack, a chip at an edge, or a ring that has gone milky and rough are all reasons to switch it off at the breaker and leave it off until it is replaced.

### One zone will not turn down.

### Can the glass be replaced, or is it a new cooktop?

It can be replaced, and whether it is worth it depends entirely on availability and on the machine. The surface is model-specific and on older units it is sometimes the thing that ends the conversation. We confirm the part exists before you book rather than after.

### What is that scratch from?

Usually a pan dragged rather than lifted, or grit under one. Scratches are cosmetic and do not affect the appliance. What matters is a crack, which goes through, and a chip at an edge, which becomes a crack.
