# JennAir ice maker fill & harvest repair

### Two halves, one symptom

An ice maker fills, freezes and harvests. “No ice” is the outcome of a problem in any of the three, and the first thing a visit establishes is which — because a fill problem lives in the plumbing and a harvest problem lives in the machine. From the kitchen they are indistinguishable; with the lid off they take about a minute to tell apart.

### What we find

- **A frozen fill tube.** The cheapest outcome and a genuinely frequent one.
- **The inlet valve**, which fails closed and makes nothing, or fails open and floods.
- **The filter and the supply**, restricting flow so the mold never fills properly.
- **The harvest heater and mechanism**, on a machine that freezes and holds on.
- **The bin sensor**, which causes both “never stops” and “never starts”.
- **Cabinet heat**, from a blocked grille, which slows everything down without breaking anything.

Which half has stopped

A machine with water in it that will not let the ice go is a harvest problem. A machine with no water in it is a fill problem. They share a symptom — no ice — and share almost nothing else.

The free causes

A plug of ice in the fill tube, an arm or switch knocked to off, a supply valve half closed, a blocked grille making the cabinet too warm to harvest properly. All four cost the visit and no more.

Measure the fill side

Supply valve, inlet valve, filter and line, in that order — the same path as the dispenser, which is why one repair often fixes both.

Measure the harvest side

The heated release and the mechanism that pushes, plus the bin sensor that can stop a perfectly healthy machine. Watched through a full cycle before the appointment ends.

### It fills with water and then just sits there.

That is a harvest problem: the machine has made ice and cannot let go of it. The release is a heated one combined with a mechanical push and either half can be the reason. It is also sometimes simply a machine in a cabinet too warm or too tight to shed its heat — worth checking the grille before booking.

### No water is arriving at all.

Start at the wall: the supply valve behind or under the cabinet, then the filter, then the line. A frozen fill tube is the other free cause and it is common. Only after those does the inlet valve become the answer.

### The bin is full but it keeps making ice.

That is the bin sensor, and it produces both of the opposite complaints — a machine that never stops and a machine that never starts. It is a small repair and it is worth doing rather than living with, because a machine that will not stop is jamming its own harvest.

### Is this the same as the ice maker in my refrigerator?

The same repair in a different place. Inside a refrigerator the ice maker is part of that cabinet, and a French-door design has to carry the ice through a warm section to reach the door — which is why frozen lines and clogged chutes are so common on them.
