# JennAir refrigerator water & dispenser repair

### One path, several places it stops

Water arrives through a supply valve at the wall, an inlet valve on the appliance, a filter and its housing, and a line that goes to the ice maker, the dispenser or both. Every one of those can stop it or leak, and only some of them are inside the appliance. That is why this visit follows the path from the wall inwards rather than starting with the part that costs the most.

### What actually goes wrong

- **A frozen fill tube** — the cheapest outcome here and a genuinely common one.
- **The inlet valve**, which fails closed and produces no ice, or fails to shut and produces a flood.
- **The filter and its housing**, which restrict flow and weep.
- **The line and its fittings**, especially after a cabinet has been moved.
- **The ice maker assembly**, which is the top of the band and the least common answer.

Start at the wall

The supply valve behind or under the cabinet, the line to it, and whether anything has been pinched by the cabinet going back after the last visit. It is the least glamorous half of this job and a real share of it ends there.

The filter and the housing

A filter past its life restricts flow, and a filter housing that has been cross-threaded leaks slowly into the cabinet base where nobody sees it for months.

The fill tube and the maker

A plug of ice in the fill tube stops production completely and costs nothing but the visit to clear. That is checked before the ice maker assembly is even considered.

Prove it over a full cycle

Ice production and the dispenser are both watched through a complete cycle before we leave, because an intermittent water problem proves nothing on a single fill.

### The ice maker just stopped.

The first three things are free to look at: whether the arm or the switch has been knocked to off, whether the fill tube has a plug of ice in it, and when the filter was last changed. Between them they account for a large share of these calls, and none of them is a part.

### There is water in the bottom of the fresh-food side.

That is usually a blocked defrost drain rather than the water supply, and it is a small repair. Water underneath the cabinet is a different matter and usually is the supply side — a valve, a fitting or the filter housing.

### Do I have to use the maker's own filter?

You do not have to, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we will say is that a poorly made cartridge is one of the more common causes of both restricted flow and a slow leak at the housing, and that the difference in price is small against a service call. Choose on that basis rather than on ours.

### The ice tastes wrong.

Usually the filter, and occasionally the fact that ice picks up whatever else is in the cabinet if it sits long enough. Change the filter, throw the first two batches, and see. If it persists, the water path is worth looking at properly.
