### The fastest diagnosis is the code

Two free tests. Put a magnet on the base of the pan — if it does not hold firmly, the appliance is behaving correctly and the pan is the problem. Then open the cabinet under the cooktop and look at whether there is anywhere for air to come from and go: a sealed island with a drawer stack pushed tight underneath produces exactly this with nothing broken.

### The commonest induction problem in this city is a cabinet

Induction makes its heat in the pan, but the electronics that do it make heat of their own, under the glass, inside a cabinet. The installation instructions ask for a specific opening and clearance. A beautiful sealed island finished after the appliance went in does not know that, and the cooktop reports it as a zone that cuts out under load rather than as an installation problem. A sealed island built afterwards leaves the appliance working exactly as designed in a space that was not, and it reports it as an intermittent zone.

### Is induction less reliable than gas?

Different rather than worse. There is nothing to clean, nothing to seat wrong and no ignition to go. What there is instead is electronics with a thermal limit, which means the installation matters far more than it does on gas — and that is where most of these calls actually land.
