# JennAir water or ice from the door has stopped

### The fastest diagnosis is the code

Change the filter, or take it out and fit the bypass plug that came with the appliance and try again. If the flow returns without the filter, you have your answer and it costs the price of a cartridge. Then check the shut-off valve behind or under the cabinet is fully open — it gets closed during other work more often than anybody expects.

### Follow the path, not the symptom

Water reaches the dispenser through a shut-off at the wall, a line, the appliance’s inlet valve, a filter and its housing, and then a tube that splits toward the ice maker and the door. Whether one or both have stopped tells you which side of that split to look at, and it takes no tools to find out. The filter and the supply valve between them account for most of it.

### The one that is specific to French doors

On a French-door cabinet the water and the ice have to travel through the warm fresh-food section to reach the door, which is why frozen lines, clogged chutes and tired dispenser seals are far more common on that design than on any other. It is not a defect in your appliance; it is the price of the layout, and it is worth knowing that the repair is usually small.

Past its life, or a poorly made cartridge restricting flow. The first thing to try and the cheapest.

The supply valve at the wall

Closed or part closed. Free to check and not the appliance.

A frozen line in the door

The tube that carries water to the dispenser runs cold. A plug of ice in it stops the flow completely.

The inlet valve

What lets water into the appliance at all. It fails closed, and it feeds both the ice maker and the dispenser.

The dispenser switch or its control

Rarer, and the version where the ice maker carries on working perfectly.

Change the filter, or bypass it

Every appliance ships with a bypass plug. If flow returns with the filter out, the cartridge was the problem.

Check the supply valve

Behind or under the cabinet, on the line to it. Fully open.

Is the ice maker also affected?

Both stopped points at the shared half of the path — valve, filter, supply. Only one stopped points at what is downstream of the split.

Reset the filter indicator

A press-and-hold on the panel after a change. It counts water rather than testing the cartridge, so it has no other way of knowing.

Then book it

Model number, whether ice stopped too, and when the filter was last changed.

Then the problem is upstream of where the path splits — the supply valve, the filter or the inlet valve — and one repair deals with both. That is genuinely good news and it is why we ask.

### Do I have to use the maker's own filter?

No, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we will say is that a poorly made cartridge is one of the commoner causes of both restricted flow and a slow weep at the housing, and the price difference is small against a service call. Decide on that basis rather than on ours.

### The water comes out slowly and then stops.

That pattern usually means a partial restriction rather than a closed valve — a filter at the end of its life, or a partly frozen line in the door. Both are ordinary and neither is expensive.
