On the visit

How this visit actually goes

The same order every time, so nothing is opened and nothing is charged before you have seen the figure and said yes.

  1. 01

    Which rack is the problem

Top, bottom, or the third rack for cutlery. On a machine with three wash levels that single answer points at the diverter or at one arm rather than at the pump, and it narrows the job before anybody opens anything.

  2. 02

    The filter and the arms

The filter comes out by hand and is looked at rather than assumed. Each arm is checked turning freely and each jet checked clear — a single blocked jet in the third rack is a common and completely invisible cause.

  3. 03

    Tell hardness from etching

A film that comes off with vinegar is hard-water deposit and is a settings problem. A cloudiness that does not come off is etching, which is permanent and comes from soft water and too much detergent. They look alike and the answers are opposite.

  4. 04

Set it up rather than sell a part

Rinse-aid level, detergent type and the cycle actually being run, adjusted with you watching. A good share of these visits end here, and that is the correct outcome.

  • Dishwasher not cleaning: repair cost

The cheapest dishwasher row on this site on purpose, because in this water most of these calls are a filter, a blocked jet or a rinse-aid setting rather than a motor. Not raised for the badge: a filter is a filter.

    • Researched market range: circulation motor $250–$550; diverter $200–$400; cleaning and descaling $120–$250

    JennAir dishwasher repair in Miami

Ten machines, all of them 24 inches, all of them quiet enough that the loudest thing in the kitchen is the water. Fully integrated, panel-ready and pocket-handle fronts; a third rack for cutlery on most of the line. On the integrated machines the controls are hidden along the top edge of the door, which changes how a problem is diagnosed more than it changes the machine.

    • A cycle that finishes with water still standing in the tub
    • Dishes coming out gritty, or coming out wet
    • A panel that will not respond, or a machine that will not start

About JennAir dishwasher wash & filter service

The cheapest dishwasher visit, and usually the right one

Every dishwasher in this line has a removable filter rather than a grinder, three wash arms and three wash levels. That makes it quiet — 38 to 39 decibels — and it makes it dependent on somebody rinsing a filter occasionally. In this water, most "it is not cleaning" calls are the filter, the jets, or the rinse-aid setting, and none of those is a part.

What decides it

  • The filter, first and every time.
  • Which rack is failing, which points at the diverter or at one arm.
  • The jets, especially in a third rack for cutlery, where a single blocked hole is invisible.
  • Water temperature and fill, because a machine filling slowly washes badly long before it reports anything.
  • The circulation or diverter motor, which is the top of this band and the least likely outcome.

Hard water, honestly

Groundwater from the Biscayne Aquifer is hard, and both Miami-Dade and Broward soften it at the treatment plant before it reaches you — so the number at your own tap is worth looking up rather than guessing. What hardness does to a dishwasher is film on glassware and scale on the heater. Raising the rinse aid, using a tablet and running a cleaner periodically deals with almost all of it, and none of that is a breakdown.

What it costs

From $145. A cleaning and a setup is the bottom; a diverter or circulation motor is the top and is confirmed by measurement before it is ordered.

Questions about JennAir dishwasher wash & filter service

My glasses come out cloudy and it will not wash off.

Test it with vinegar. If the film lifts, it is hard-water deposit: raise the rinse aid, use a tablet rather than a gel, and run a dishwasher cleaner periodically. If it does not lift, it is etching — permanent, caused by soft water and too much detergent, and the fix is less detergent going forward rather than a repair.

Only the top rack is dirty.

That is one of the most useful things you can tell us. One rack failing while the others are fine points at the diverter that sends water between levels, or at the arm and jets feeding that rack — not at the wash pump, which would take all three down together.

How often should the filter be cleaned?

Every month or two on this water, and more often if a lot of what goes in is scraped rather than rinsed. It takes under a minute and it prevents most of what people call in about. A blocked filter shows up as gritty dishes long before it shows up as anything more serious.

Will this fix the smell?

Usually, because the smell and the grit are the same problem. What is left in a filter, in the sump and around the door seal is what you are smelling. If it persists after a proper clean, the next thing to look at is the drain path rather than the wash side.
