Is it the drive or the permission?

A drawer unit will not heat unless it is satisfied the drawer is properly closed, and that is correct behavior rather than a defect to be worked around. It is checked and, if it is the cause, replaced rather than defeated.

On a microwave drawer the door does not swing — it drives, on rails, with a motor and position switches, out of a cabinet or an island. That is a mechanism no other appliance in the kitchen has, and it means a whole category of problems that are mechanical rather than microwave. This maker builds four of them, so it is a real row rather than a footnote.
The interlocks, and why we do not bypass them
Every microwave refuses to run unless it is satisfied its door is properly closed, and a drawer unit is no different. When one of those switches fails, the appliance stops — which is correct, and which looks like a breakdown. There is a version of this repair where somebody defeats the switch to make the complaint go away. We do not do that one.
What goes wrong
- The drive and the rails, showing first as slow or noisy rather than as stopped.
- The position switches, which tell the appliance where the drawer is.
- The interlocks, which decide whether it may heat.

My microwave drawer will not open.
Two free things first: check nothing on the counter or in the cabinet is fouling the front, and cut the power at the breaker for a minute to let the control reset. If it still will not run its drawer, that is the drive or the switches that tell the appliance where the drawer is, and both are ordinary repairs.
It opens but will not heat.
That points at the interlocks — the switches that confirm the drawer is properly closed. The appliance is refusing to run for the right reason, which is why we replace those rather than bypass them. It is also the cheaper end of this work.
The door on my built-in unit has started to catch.
Usually the hinge or the alignment, and worth dealing with before it becomes the latch. A door that has to be pushed to close is putting the load somewhere it was not designed for.
Can a drawer mechanism be adjusted rather than replaced?
Often, yes. Rails, drive tension and alignment are adjustments, and a drawer that has become slow or noisy without failing is usually one of those. It is the cheap end of this row and it is worth calling before it stops entirely.
