Every expensive repair on this site has a cheap version of itself that happens first. A condenser packed with dust is a compressor working too hard for two years. A defrost drain slowly icing closed is water in your cabinet base. An ice machine that has not been descaled is a pump. A toe-kick grille closed up by a beautiful cabinetry run is a cellar drifting two degrees. None of those needs a technician to be dramatic about it; all of them need somebody to look once a year.

What does this actually prevent?
The expensive rows on this site. A condenser nobody has cleaned is the largest single contributor to a refrigeration cabinet working too hard; a blocked defrost drain becomes ice around an evaporator; an ice machine left uncleaned becomes a pump; a blocked toe-kick grille becomes an intermittent zone. None of those is dramatic and all of them are cheaper this way.
How much cheaper is a second appliance?
Substantially, and it is arithmetic rather than a discount: the travel and the setup are the bulk of what a service call costs, and they happen once. On this make it matters more than usual, because a JennAir kitchen is normally a whole suite from one maker.
How often is worth doing?
Once a year for a kitchen in normal use, and it is worth timing it before the summer rather than after. Almost everything this climate does to an appliance — humidity into a cabinet, heat in a sealed island, a condenser working against a hot kitchen — is hardest between June and October.
My house is empty for part of the year.
Then this is worth more, not less. A visit before the season starts finds the drift, the seal and the filter that would otherwise be discovered in November — and an empty house is where a slow leak does the most damage before anybody sees it.
