Repair cost
JennAir downdraft and venting repair cost
The row no other site on this fleet has. Everything that moves air out of your kitchen is priced here — the downdraft this maker invented, and the vent side of an over-the-range microwave. Wide on purpose, because where the blower lives is not visible from the kitchen.
- From $95 diagnostic, credited to the repair
- 59 cities and neighborhoods covered
- OEM parts available on order
- In writing the price, before anything is opened

What moves it
Why two of the same job cost different amounts
These apply at the same time and in both directions. Which of them is true of your kitchen is what the on-site diagnostic settles.
-
Where the blower actually is
In the unit, in the cabinet below, or remote at the end of the duct run — sometimes in a crawl space or on an exterior wall. It is not visible from the kitchen and it is what moves this figure most.
-
Whether it is the appliance at all
A saturated grease filter, a stuck damper or a crushed duct are the first three suspects and the cheapest. A real share of these calls end at a filter.
-
Retractable or not
A downdraft that rises out of the counter adds a motor, a drive and position switches inside the countertop, and reaching that mechanism is the top of this band.
-
Ducted or recirculating
On a microwave-hood, the question almost nobody can answer. A recirculating unit with a saturated charcoal filter moves air and removes nothing, which is exactly the complaint people call about.

What we actually do
The job behind the figure: what it involves, when a symptom points at it, and what we check first.

from $165 Downdraft vent & lift repair
A downdraft that runs and no longer pulls, or one that will not rise out of the counter. This maker invented downdraft ventilation and still sells it — and most of what stops one is not the appliance.
- Filter, damper and duct checked before the blower
- Remote blowers located, because they are not in the kitchen
- The lift mechanism treated as mechanical, which is what it is

About JennAir downdraft and venting repair cost
Five things, and three are not the machine
A downdraft has to move air sideways and down and then along a duct that runs under a floor or through the back of a cabinet. The filter, the damper, the duct, the blower and the control can each stop it, in roughly that order of likelihood — and the first three are cheap or free. That is why this row starts at $165 and reaches a long way up.
The idea this maker invented
JennAir built the first self-ventilating cooktop in 1961 and the first downdraft range in 1965, and there are still downdraft cooktops, a downdraft range and downdraft ventilation units in the current line. There is a very large installed base in South Florida from every decade in between, including the cartridge cooktops where a grill or griddle module lifts out. Those are usually still repairable; electrical and mechanical parts are commonly available and some cosmetic parts are not, and availability is confirmed before an order rather than after.
What this page absorbs
The vent side of an over-the-range microwave, from $135 — the cheapest visit on this site. On those units a dead microwave is a dead hood, and the reverse is not true: a fan that has stopped while the microwave heats perfectly is a hood repair on its own.

Questions about JennAir downdraft and venting repair cost
It runs but the kitchen still fills with steam.
The blower is turning and the air is not going anywhere. Filter, damper, duct — in that order, and three of the five causes are outside the machine. We check the path before quoting the appliance.
How much is a downdraft blower?
It depends more on where it is than on what it is. In the unit is the middle of this band; remote at the end of a duct run in a crawl space is the top. Finding it is part of the diagnostic.
My downdraft will not rise.
That is the lift mechanism — a motor, a drive and position switches inside the counter — and it is the top of this band because reaching it is the job. It usually gives warning first by getting slower or noisier, which is a good moment to call.
Mine is from the nineties. Worth repairing?
Usually, and worth asking rather than assuming. Electrical and mechanical parts for these are commonly available; some cartridges, trim and control panels are not. We tell you which side of that line you are on before anything is ordered.
