Establish what changed
Less ice, slower ice, or worse ice are three different messages. Cloudy soft cubes point at flow and scale; a lower quantity at the same quality points somewhere else.

Air before water
The grille at the base of an undercounter machine is checked clear first. A machine that cannot shed its heat makes less ice with nothing wrong inside it.

Clean the path, not the bin
The reservoir, the distributor, the evaporator surface and the pump — the places scale actually collects. Wiping out the bin makes it look clean and changes nothing.

Measure the result
Production is timed after the clean, so the difference is a number rather than an impression. If it has not recovered, that is a diagnosis and the visit moves on rather than ending on a hope.

Both current ice machines on this make are complete undercounter appliances with their own sealed system, their own water supply and often their own drain — not the ice maker inside a refrigerator. What they have in common with every other machine in this city that boils, freezes or sprays water is scale, and scale is what turns a healthy machine into a service call over about two years of not being cleaned.

Why did my ice go cloudy?
Usually a slower freeze or a dirtier water path rather than a temperature problem. A machine that makes clear ice freezes water in layers so air and minerals are pushed out; when the flow through that path drops — scale, a partly blocked line, a filter nobody has changed — it traps them instead. It is a cleaning problem far more often than a repair.
How often should this be done?
Twice a year for a machine in regular use here, which is more often than the manual assumes, because of the water and because these machines live in warm cabinets. The honest reason to bother is that most ice machine service calls in this city are a cleaning that was left too long.
Mine is in an outdoor kitchen.
Then it is working much harder: higher ambient temperature, salt in the air on a coastal property, and often a supply line sitting in the sun. Say so when you book, because the diagnosis starts in a different place. It is also worth knowing that the maker's own warranty excludes corrosion from "high salt concentrations, high moisture or humidity" in those words — not a reason to worry, a reason to keep the exterior maintained.
Can I use a household descaler?
Please do not. An ice machine makes something you eat, and the cleaners made for them are made for that reason. A general-purpose descaler in a water path that ends in a glass is not a saving worth making.
