JennAir the ice maker has stopped
No ice, less ice, or ice that has gone cloudy and soft. An ice maker does three things and "no ice" is the outcome of a problem in any of them — which one decides whether this is plumbing, cleaning or a repair.

Five ordinary causes
What this usually turns out to be
Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.
-
The arm or switch turned off
Knocked by a package or turned off deliberately and forgotten. Free.
-
A frozen fill tube
A plug of ice in the tube that brings water in. Stops production completely and costs the visit to clear.
Ice maker fill & harvest repair from $195 -
A filter or supply restriction
A mold that never fills properly makes small, cloudy, soft ice before it makes none.
Refrigerator water & dispenser repair from $155 -
Scale in the water path
On an undercounter machine, the commonest reason production drops and the ice quality goes first.
Ice machine cleaning & descaling from $155 -
A harvest that will not release
Water in, ice made, nothing coming out. A different half of the machine entirely.

Before you call anybody
None of it needs tools, and all of it makes the visit shorter.
-
01
Arm or switch
Look before anything else. It is embarrassing and it is often the answer.
-
02
Is there water in the mold?
Water and no ice is one problem; ice and no delivery is the opposite. It is the single most useful observation on this appliance.
-
03
The filter date
Past its life restricts flow and shows first in ice quality rather than quantity.
-
04
The grille, on an undercounter machine
A machine that cannot shed heat makes less ice with nothing broken.
-
05
Then book it
Model number, whether there is water in the mold, and when it was last cleaned. That last answer settles a lot of these.

About JennAir the ice maker has stopped
If you are looking up jennair ice maker not making ice, this is the page: the ice maker has stopped, what it usually turns out to be, and the check worth doing before anybody is called out in Miami.
The fastest diagnosis is the code
Three free things. Check that the arm or the switch has not been knocked to off. Look for a plug of ice in the fill tube. And check when the water filter was last changed. Between them they account for a large share of the calls we take about ice, and none of them is a part.
Three stages, one complaint
Fill, freeze, harvest. "No ice" is the outcome of a problem at any of them, and telling them apart takes one look: is there water in the mold? Water and no ice is freezing. Ice and no delivery is harvest. No water at all is plumbing — a valve, a filter, a line, or a plug of ice in the fill tube. The first two of those are inside the machine and the third mostly is not.
Quality before quantity
An ice maker in trouble usually makes worse ice before it makes less, and less before it makes none. Cloudy, soft, small cubes are the early warning, and at that point the answer is normally a filter and a clean rather than a part. Waiting until the bin is empty means paying for a repair instead of a service.

Questions about JennAir the ice maker has stopped
Why has my ice gone cloudy and soft?
Usually a slower freeze or a dirtier water path rather than a temperature problem. A machine that makes clear ice freezes water in layers so air and minerals get pushed out; when the flow through that path drops, it traps them instead. It is a cleaning and water problem far more often than a repair.
It fills and then nothing happens.
That is a harvest problem — the machine has made ice and cannot let go of it. On these units the harvest is a heated release plus a mechanical push, and either half can be the reason. It is also sometimes a machine in a cabinet too warm or too tight to shed heat, which is free to check.
How often should an undercounter machine be cleaned?
Twice a year for a machine in regular use here — more often than the manual assumes, because of the water and because these live in warm cabinets. The honest reason to bother is that most ice machine service calls in this city are a cleaning that was left too long.
Is the ice maker in my refrigerator the same thing?
Same repair, different place. Inside a refrigerator it is part of that cabinet, and a French-door design has to carry ice through a warm section to reach the door, which is why frozen lines and clogged chutes are common there. An undercounter machine is a complete appliance with its own system.
