The fastest diagnosis is the code
Move whatever matters away from the back wall and off the top shelf, then measure the actual temperature with a thermometer in a glass of water rather than trusting the display. If the number is far below the setting, that is a control or sensing problem. If the number is right and things still freeze, it is where the cold air is landing.
Too cold is diagnosed the same way as too warm
People treat freezing food as a nuisance and warm food as an emergency, but they are the same set of parts read in opposite directions. A damper that is stuck open makes the cabinet too cold; stuck closed, too warm. A thermistor reading high makes it overcool; reading low, undercool. So the diagnosis is identical: measure the real temperature, find out whether it responds to its own control, and measure the sensing.
Where the cold arrives
In a combination cabinet the freezer does the cooling and air is fed into the fresh-food side through a vent. Whatever sits directly in front of that vent gets air far colder than the cabinet average, and no repair changes that — it is how the appliance works. Moving the salad is the fix. Freezing across the whole cabinet is the version worth calling about.

That is where the cold air arrives, and it is normal for that spot to be the coldest in the cabinet. Move anything delicate forward and off the top shelf. If it is freezing everywhere rather than only there, that is a different answer.
